Why We Should Elect Ron Paul (Because Boomers Make the Worst Presidents)

The title of this post is a deliberate provocation but it’s not just personal opinion or a belated bout of Xer vs Boomer bashing. As far as “sign bashing” the Leo ruled Boomers, the signs are like colors to me. How can you dislike the lovely range of the blues or the greens, the delicacy of pale pink through to the darkest, most dramatic red? Yellow, black, purple, brown…all have their place in the spectrum. When it comes to signs, like colors, I don’t show the prejudice of favoritism.

So let’s look at the data that set me holding up a cross to ward off the current crop of Republican candidates (excepting Ron Paul of course). My starting point was the Wikipedia page that shows the aggregate rankings of the Presidents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States

Instead of using Wikipedia’s quartile rankings, I divided the list of presidents into thirds, using the top and bottom 33% of the presidents for a wider range of “great” and “poor” presidents. I then lined them up according to the positions of the outer planets at birth for a cross time comparison of the generations. You can break this list down using Strauss-Howe generational theory, but here we’re using an astrological sorting which maintains the same basic structure as Strauss and Howe generations laid out by E. Alan Meece (see my post “The Astrology of Boomers, Xers and Millenials”). If the order still looks strange to you, we’re starting with the president born with Uranus in Aries, the first zodiac sign, at the top of the list, followed by the presidents born with Uranus in Taurus no matter what century they were born in, and we’ll end with the president born with Uranus in Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac. Carrying over the Wikipedia color scheme, the top third of the presidents are listed in blue, while the worst third of presidents are colored red.

Here is the list:

Andrew Jackson 3/15/1767 Uranus in Aries, Neptune in Virgo, Pluto in Capricorn

W.H. Harrison 2/9/1773 Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Scorpio, Pluto in Pisces

Woodrow Wilson 2/27/1856 Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces, Pluto in Taurus

Astrological Calendar - Nikolas Schiller

Let’s look more closely at this list. The first four are a pretty impressive group of presidents.

Teddy Roosevelt 2/27/1858 Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces, Pluto in Taurus

From what I can see, W.H. Harrison’s worse fault as president was being long winded. His speech on that rainy inaugural lasted for hours, leaving the president and doubtless many of his constituents susceptible to the cold virus, which in the case of the elderly executive in chief led to pneumonia and within a month to his death. Really, he shouldn’t even be given a rating with only a month in office, but historians are a cold hearted lot. These presidents belong to a generational group that Strauss and Howe call the “Artist archetype”:

Artist generations (recessive) are born during a Crisis, a time when great dangers cut down social and political complexity in favor of public consensus, aggressive institutions, and an ethic of personal sacrifice. Artists grow up overprotected by adults preoccupied with the Crisis, come of age as the socialized and conformist young adults of a post-Crisis world, break out as process-oriented midlife leaders during an Awakening, and age into thoughtful post-Awakening elders.[25] Due to this location in history, such generations tend to be remembered for their quiet years of rising adulthood and their midlife years of flexible, consensus-building leadership. Their main societal contributions are in the area of expertise and due process. Their best-known historical leaders include William Shirley, Cadwallader Colden, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. These have been complex social technicians and advocates for fairness and inclusion. (Examples among today’s living generations: Silent and Homelanders.)[26] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strauss-Howe_generational_theory

Let’s look at the next cross-time cohort in our group of good and bad presidents:

George W. Bush 2/6/1946 Uranus in Gemini, Neptune in Libra, Pluto in Leo

Zachary Taylor 11/24/1784 Uranus in Cancer, Neptune in Libra, Pluto in Aquarius

Warren Harding 11/2/1865 Uranus in Cancer, Neptune in Aries, Pluto in Taurus

John Tyler 3/29/1790 Uranus in Leo, Neptune in Libra, Pluto in Aquarius

James Buchanan 4/23/1791 Uranus in Leo, Neptune in Libra, Pluto in Aquarius

Calvin Coolidge 7/4/1872 Uranus in Leo, Neptune in Aries, Pluto in Taurus

Herbert Hoover 8/10/1874 Uranus in Leo, Neptune in Taurus, Pluto in Taurus

That’s a lot of red! Now mind you, this group includes presidents in the mid range too. They just don’t contain any that are rated in the highest 1/3 of presidents. This group corresponds to what Strauss and Howe call the Prophet Archetype.

Prophet generations (dominant) are born after a Crisis, during a time of rejuvenated community life and consensus around a new societal order. Prophets grow up as the increasingly indulged children of this post-Crisis era, come of age as self-absorbed young crusaders of an Awakening, focus on morals and principles in midlife, and emerge as elders guiding another Crisis.[25] Due to this location in history, such generations tend to be remembered for their coming-of-age fervor and their values-oriented elder leadership. Their main societal contributions are in the area of vision, values, and religion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strauss-Howe_generational_theory

Now Strauss and Howe include as the Prophet archtype some whose astrology would push them into the next group, including presidents like Abraham Lincoln, James Polk and Franklin Roosevelt. Strauss and Howe, who are themselves members of the Boomer “Prophet” generation, didn’t use astrology in making their determinations. It’s a good thing too because otherwise they would be left with a presidential list greatly in need of visine. We’re going by the astrological generations mapped out by E. Alan Meece, however, or rather mapped out in the sky itself and noted down by Meece.

If the previous list corresponded to the Boomers and the Uranus generations that are their cross time peers, the next gives us the generations that correspond astrologically to Xers:

James Polk 11/2/1795 Uranus in Virgo, Neptune in Scorpio, Pluto in Aquarius

Millard Fillmore 1/7/1800 Uranus in Virgo, Neptune in Scorpio, Pluto in Pisces

Franklin Delano Roosevelt 1/30/1882 Uranus in Virgo, Neptune in Taurus, Pluto in Taurus

Harry Truman 5/8/1884 Uranus in Virgo, Neptune in Taurus, Pluto in Gemini

Franklin Pierce 11/23/1804 Uranus in Libra, Neptune in Scorpio, Pluto in Pisces

Dwight D. Eisenhower 2/14/1890 Uranus in Libra, Neptune in Gemini, Pluto in Gemini

Andrew Johnson 12/29/1808 Uranus in Scorpio, Neptune in Sagittarius, Pluto in Pisces

Abraham Lincoln 2/12/1809 Uranus in Scorpio, Neptune in Sagittarius, Pluto in Pisces

George Washington 2/22/1732 Uranus in Sag, Neptune in Gemini, Pluto in Libra

John Adams 10/30/1735 Uranus in Sag, Neptune in Gemini, Pluto in Libra

Again, this is an impressive list. Our modern day Xers range from those who were born with Uranus in Virgo to anyone who has Uranus in Sagittarius at birth. There are four signs in the mix because Uranus is moving through the short side of the zodiac. Pluto, with its very oblong orbit, moves especially fast through these signs, but Uranus spends a lot less time there too. If we extend into the past the generational grouping we see today, this group covers from the Uranus in Virgo born FDR, to the Uranus in Scorpio born Abe Lincoln, to the Uranus in Sag born George Washington. Strauss and Howe theory has Truman ( Uranus in Virgo) and Washington ( Uranus in Sagittarius) as Xers, while Abraham Lincoln, born with Uranus two signs after Truman and one before Washington, is a Boomer. In fact, Lincoln was just as much of a hard scrabbling Nomad as Washington or Truman.

Nomad generations (recessive) are born during an Awakening, a time of social ideals and spiritual agendas, when young adults are passionately attacking the established institutional order. Nomads grow up as under-protected children during this Awakening, come of age as alienated, post-Awakening adults, become pragmatic midlife leaders during a Crisis, and age into resilient post-Crisis elders.[25] Due to this location in history, such generations tend to be remembered for their adrift, alienated rising-adult years and their midlife years of pragmatic leadership. Their main societal contributions are in the area of liberty, survival and honor. Their best-known historical leaders include Nathaniel Bacon, William Stoughton, George Washington, John Adams, Ulysses Grant, Grover Cleveland, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower. These were shrewd realists who preferred individualistic, pragmatic solutions to problems. (Example among today’s living generations: Generation X.)[26]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strauss-Howe_generational_theory

Lastly we have the Hero archetype which corresponds to today’s Generation Y.

Thomas Jefferson 4/13/1743 Uranus in Capricorn, Neptune in Cancer, Pluto in Scorpio

Ulysses S. Grant 4/27/1822 Uranus in Capricorn, Neptune in Capricorn, Pluto in Aries

Lyndon Johnson 8/27/1908 Uranus in Capricorn, Neptune in Cancer, Pluto in Gemini

James Madison 3/16/1751 Uranus in Aquarius, Neptune in Cancer, Pluto in Sagittarius

James Garfield 11/19/1831 Uranus in Aquarius, Neptune in Capricorn, Pluto in Aries

Benjamin Harrison 8/20/1833 Uranus in Aquarius, Neptune in Capricorn, Pluto in Aries

John F Kennedy 5/29/1917 Uranus in Aquarius, Neptune in Leo, Pluto in Cancer

James Monroe 4/28/1758 Uranus in Pisces, Neptune in Leo, Pluto in Sagittarius

Hero generations (dominant) are born after an Awakening, during a time of individual pragmatism, self-reliance, and laissez faire. Heroes grow up as increasingly protected post-Awakening children, come of age as team-oriented young optimists during a Crisis, emerge as energetic, overly-confident midlifers, and age into politically powerful elders attacked by another Awakening.[25] Due to this location in history, such generations tend to be remembered for their collective military triumphs in young adulthood and their political achievements as elders. Their main societal contributions are in the area of community, affluence, and technology. Their best-known historical leaders include Cotton Mather, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. These have been vigorous and rational institution builders. In midlife, all have been aggressive advocates of economic prosperity and public optimism, and all have maintained a reputation for civic energy and competence in old age. (Examples among today’s living generations: G.I.s and Millennials.)[26 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strauss-Howe_generational_theory

So where in this list would our current President fit? And what about our presidential candidates? I’m going to color the present day politicos green.

James Monroe 4/28/1758 Uranus in Pisces, Neptune in Leo, Pluto in Sagittarius

The sea of red you see for the Boomers and their cross time peers is partly because this is the generation that gets to try and govern a country which is fast becoming unmanageable. In other words, it’s possibly more a reflection of the time in which they live that causes Uranus in Gemini, Cancer and Leo presidents to be ranked so poorly, so consistently. Just by virtue of where they’re born they are destined to come to power during the nadir that leads to America’s renewal. But really, does anyone question whether it was Boomer policies that brought us to the brink of catastrophe this time around?

Obama actually came in around #14 in the Presidential ranking list. Since this rating was on the strength of one poll (in the year of his election) I omitted his listing. He will surely fall lower in the rankings but for sentimental reasons – Nobel Prize winner, 1st African American President – he probably won’t descend as low as you might expect of a fourth quarter president. Also to note, that while Strauss-Howe Generational Theory considers him as an Xer, his Uranus in Leo makes him one of the youngest Boomers according to astrology.

Though Ron Paul borders the red zone in our list, he has Uranus in Taurus like Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. The Silent Generation’s Ron Paul inspires in his supporters the same kind of reverence that our top three presidents shared, but he won’t be our FDR, our Abe Lincoln, or George Washington, the three American presidents who saw us through our darkest days and back into the light of a renewed cycle. The reason, quite simply, is because he was born too soon and will not be able to see us through to the 2020s. No one president can nowadays because since FDR the president is restricted to 8 years in office. But if we could elect Ron Paul now, we may be able to buy time for a more pragmatic Xer politician to rise to prominence and bypass the rest of the Boomers altogether. Just saying, it couldn’t hurt.
